This album is insane. I can’t help but think it’s been considerably held back by still being a Bandcamp exclusive (besides physical copies.) The intro alone is absolutely phenomenal.

seriously this shit is so dope, Boldy easily dropped two of the best albums of the year somehow

Meek gotta chill with the beefs

      1. 1

Meek wins (most) beefs to be fair

        1. 1

it’s a shame he lost the one beef that mattered most

For those who didn’t click the link, it should be coming out today at 3pm eastern time

lowkey hyped to see what it sounds like

        1. 2

This is actually really good, I’m surprised. Never really gave NAV a fair chance but from what I’ve heard this seems like a huge step up from his previous music. The track with Pop Smoke is easily the best song I’ve heard from him too

          1. 1

This album is an insane piece of work. It’s so crazy that he works full time as a firefighter in NY and does this as a hobby. He’s even said that’s the reason he’s able to make his music exactly the way he wants, because it’s not the source of food on the dinner table.

            1. 4

Gonna just throw it out there since it’ll probably come up anyways

Pusha T - The Story of Adidon

Exposing Drake hiding a child, calling him a deadbeat dad, taking shots at his homie’s MS, talking about his father leaving him, Pusha doesn’t hold back at all and I think this track is gonna hold up as one of the better diss tracks in rap history.

Freddie Gibbs needs his own show without a doubt. Gibbs is fucking hilarious and isn’t half bad at acting either.

If he had a whole show with funny shit like some of his recent music videos that’d be incredible. Maybe put that shit on HBO or Adult Swim or something

                1. 2

I need a Freddie Gibbs comedy show where he plays a fictionalized version of himself.

                  1. 1

That’d be dope af, his personality would work so well with that

                1. 2

sounds like Flatbush or Earthgang in a sense

                  1. 3

How is it? Debating whether or not I should pay the $20 or wait the week, I’m like 50/50 with Ka’s other work

                    1. 3

Lmao I’m not sure either, broke boi so I can’t afford the $20

                      1. 2

lmao same, gotta get gas and shit this week and money’s been tight with coronavirus and all that.

Looks like the consensus around hhh is that it’s pretty damn good though, I’ll definitely be giving it a proper listen on the 7th for sure

                    1. 2

                      Absolute classic.

god I wish Pain 1993 was longer

shoot baby voice Carti straight into my veins

                        1. 3

lean has some of the best producers fr

                          1. 2

I can’t seem to get into much of his work besides a handful of tracks but I gotta agree his beat selection is top notch

                          1. 2

This music video is so well produced

                            Love the ODB homage too

                            1. 1

This is somehow both a budget God’s Plan and an even more wholesome God’s Plan

                              1. 4

I’d say it’s partially due to the fact that hiphop is constantly evolving and morphing as opposed to genres like rock, where a band doesn’t entirely need to change their sound to stay relevant as long as the music is still great.

Yeah, if a rapper keeps pumping out similar sounding music that manages to still be amazing over time, people will acknowledge it, but it might be a bit more niche and won’t gain as much mainstream momentum as a new school artist. But if a classic rock group dropped a new album after a hiatus, they’re more likely to succeed again within the genre, if that makes sense. If Led Zeppelin dropped a new album next week it’d do numbers, but if Rakim drops an album, it’ll likely only do well within hiphop communities and not so much radio.

Now if Rakim dropped a new album that had fresh, unique beats and shifted to a more modern sound for the production, that’d catch the attention of quite a few more people. A Rakim x Metro Boomin collab album (which sounds really out of place to even type) would have a lot of potential for some current day radio hits and expose the more mainstream audience to Rakim’s earlier work as well.

Ultimately, only time will tell, because as you said hiphop is a young genre in comparison. I could be entirely wrong here, who knows.

                                1. 1

now you got me wanting a Rakim and Metro collab tape damn

                                1. 2

Future & Flume would make for some crazy music, I bet Flume could easily make some insane unique trap

                                  1. 2

evermore is easily my top project from them. their harder albums are lit, but i find myself coming back to the more emotional songs like these more often

                                    1. 2

it’s alright but I haven’t been revisiting this track as much as some of his other ones

                                      1. 2

I always see MIKE mentioned on reddit but never gave him a listen, this is a cool introduction to him though imma keep checking him out

                                        1. 1

Yeah I find while he’s not a super technical MC he manages to communicate so much emotion in his work and it seems very genuine, also he has a good ear for production

                                        1. 1

Conway goes off on this. the beat is horrendous (in the best way) too
