Please read the about page to get a basic feel for what this site is.
I’d say I’m slightly more technically proficient than the average person, but this is my first attempt at launching a real website, database and all. If you run into any bugs or issues, please report them to me by sending me a message and I will investigate what’s wrong. There’s a strong possibility that any bugs you encounter will be caused by my endlessly adjusting of the initial server configuration, but if it’s specific to the actual Lobste.rs code I will submit an issue on Github.
There are a handful of rules you must follow when using this site:
No memes. This site is meant for quality in-depth discussion, relevant news, music releases, write-ups, and reviews. Please post memes to r/hhcj or Twitter instead.
No spamming of any kind. It’s okay to love an artist. Please do not post multiple links to them in quick succession. This applies to original music as well, if not more so. This is not the replies section of Kanye’s latest tweet, please do not post a link to your Soundcloud page over and over. Original music is allowed, but use common sense when posting; one post is enough.
No links to music leaks or other possibly illegal content. Posting download links is strictly prohibited. Please find another forum that allows leaks, they’re out there and work just fine. Once you find those forums, don’t link them here or they will be removed. I’m not trying to get a takedown notice because someone posted a new Playboi Carti leak on my tiny new website.
No harassing other users. This goes without saying, but just don’t be a jerk. If someone upsets you on here because they have different opinions on music, don’t take it personally and fight back. Music is subjective and that is what makes it so great. If someone is harassing you, please notify me immediately and I will take necessary action if required.
No lyric chains or copypasta. Keep that somewhere else, this isn’t Reddit. That being said, don’t do go to r/hiphopheads and say I told you it was okay to do it there, because they don’t like that on their subreddit either. Twitter might be more appropriate.
Breaking any of these rules may result in a ban with or without warning. If you’re being obnoxious and spamming, you may be banned for a week. If you’re harassing users or posting illegal content, you will be banned forever. Bans are given on a case-by-case basis and are up to the administrator’s discretion. If you are caught evading a ban, your IP will be blacklisted from the server.
I’ll most likely be adding these rules to the about page very soon, but seeing as this is the only post here, there is no excuse for not following the rules. These rules may be subject to change at any point.
Also, don’t be a shithead. Instead of ranking Kanye’s discography, share something interesting or engaging that encourages discussion about hiphop. I’m going to be mildly annoyed if I have to pay for web hosting out of pocket just so people have a new place to argue about ye being his best or worst album.
Arguments regarding music will naturally arise, and that is okay. If you’re engaged in a disagreement, support your argument like an adult without dismissing the other user’s views or name-calling.
Anyways, if you’ve made it this far and still want to join, feel free to request an invite. Since this just barely launched, I’m going to be a bit relaxed about approving users, but depending on growth that will probably change at some point in the future.
